Setting The Record Straight The name B Boy means Break Boy and it was the name given to boys around the early 1970's when they would come out onto a dance floor at a party or jam and throw down their moves on the Break of a record, the section where the percussion or drum solo would be performed, hence the name the Break of the record or Break Boys. The term Breakdance was in fact created by the media some years later to expose the dance to the masses. The term B Boy is the original term for this dance and any true B Boy or B Girl will often refuse to be called a breakdancer claiming anyone can master a move or two and call themselves a Breakdancer. However, B Boying or B Girling is a way of life. We've got your back! |
